According to the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13663778), we mechanical engineers earn 34% more than we did 30 years ago. We haven't done anywhere near as well as Medical practitioners (153%), but we're much better off than Fork lift truck drivers (-5%).

Whatever the deal is with earnings, we certainly ain't 34% better off than we were 30 years ago! Apologies for the misleading thread title.

34% more? Is this data from 2008, or 2011? Does that even catch up with the inflation rate? =P

34% more? Is this data from 2008, or 2011? Does that even catch up with the inflation rate? =PThe article in the link is from June 2011. I think the figures are pretty meaningless unless they're normalised against cost-of-living/inflation etc.
